Launch Photos

Photographs Copyright © RJC

These pictures were taken from my backyard roughly 50 miles west of Cape Canaveral except for the STS-114 launch pictures which were taken from in front of the "Mission: Space" ride at Epcot which is a little farther away.

Occasionally, someone will ask if I can hear the sound of the rockets as they go up. No, I can't. They are too far away to hear them at all. When the shuttle lands at the space center, I can hear the double sonic boom as it gets near. It's two very big bangs maybe a second apart. It sounds like something hit the roof and sides of the house-- very hard!-- all at once. (I've never been outside when this happened.)
